THE SKIN

The largest organ of body is skin .An adult skin area is approximately 19 square feet and its weight is about 2.7Kg.Skin is like a barrier for body .


It protects body from diseases ,injury and loss of water from the moist of internal tissues. It helps to control the body temperature, 3 excrete some wastes, and serve as a major sensory organ ,pain and temperature .

Skin area consists of 3 million cells, 3 feet blood vessels, 12 feet of nerves and 100 sweat glands.

Skin has 3 layers of tissues epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissues.

Epidermis:It is outer tissue of skin and it consists of further 3 layers. Malpighian generative layer, a layer of living cells and an outer layer of dead cells. The epidermis lacks blood vessels and has few nerves, but granules of the pigment melanin .

Dermis: The dermis contains numerous tiny blood capillaries, nerve endings, sweat and sebaceous glands, and lymph vessels.

Subcutaneous Tissue : It is mainly consists on blood vessels ,connective tissues and cells that store fat .This tissue helps protect the body from blows and other injuries and helps to retain body heat.
